Highland School District Very Important Principles Program - VIP Sign Replacement

Highland Community Schools VIP program appreciates the grant given to us by the Highland Area Community Foundation. We used the money for replacing the VIP signs that are located throughout the communities served by the Highland School District. The goal of these VIP signs is to spread the words of good character and always have them in clear view. Community volunteers gave their time to install the signs. Being able to have these signs in prominent places, our school families see them daily. Thank you Highland Area Community Foundation for being a part of promoting good character in our community.

Highland Arts Council - "Art of Soul"

The Highland Arts Council received a grant from the HACF for their Art of Soul program, in which 45 students increased their art skills. The Art of Soul program met in the upstairs room of the Weinheimer building for 2 hours every Thursday night for five weeks. Students learned watercolor technique, drawing with chalk, clay, fabric as an art form, and creating with wire from several local, professional artists. Thanks to this grant the Highland area is a more CREATIVE place!

Highland Area Christian Service Ministry - "Safety For All"

The 2013 Highland Area Community Foundation that HACSM received was used to purchase a security and video system. This sytem provides security for the building and also alerts staff when the walk-in freezer's temperature rises to an unsafe level. The video cameras provide security for the building during and after hours. Staff is able to review the tapes to prevent unwanted behavior and find lost items. The 2013 HACF grants provides a safe and secure environment for those in need of food and other vital services.

Highland Garden Club - Memorial Bench Landscaping

The Highland Garden Club received a grant from the HACF for The Gardens at Glik Park. With the funds, the Garden Club fulfilled their designated wish to landscape around the Kapilla Memorial Bench across from the Johannes Gazebo. The Garden Club enhanced the project scope by building a pergola (instead of just a trellis) as well as installing hardscape complimented by roses and two very interesting braided pyracanthas! Because of the Community Foundation's grant the Highland Garden Club is helping to make Our Community just a little 'Greener'!

Boy Scout Troop 1043 - High-Adventure Initiative Backpacks

Boy Scout Troop 1043 received funds to purchase quality backpacks to use for hiking and camping. The Troop's Scouts enjoyed learning new skills and using the backpacks for hiking on beautiful trails around the area. As their skills and abilities grow with continued use of the packs they hope to one day plan and execute a major High Adventure trip that might take them to locations such as Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico or maybe even the Grand Canyon in Arizona! They are definitely thinking big and the boys love it! The Scouts are learning to care for and maintain all of our equipment and are held accountable for the packs that they are assigned to use. Troop 1043 continues to serve the Highland Area Community with cheerful service. Because of the generous grant Troop 1043 can continue to promote it’s excellent program for developing boys into outstanding young men and leaders for Our Community.

Boy Scout Troop 1040 - Water Safety/Kayaks

Boy Scouts Troop 1040 was the grateful beneficiary of a HACF grant that allowed them to purchase two Kayaks. The kayaks have been used on numerous occasions by scouts and parents on local lakes for entertainment and more importantly for safety water training. As the scouts grow, mature and become young productive adults in Our Community, the Kayaks will always be part of the troop and will be passed on to the next young scout waiting to learn the joys and benefits of the great outdoor activities. Building a Great Community!
